What is CUET and Why do You Need it?
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is currently the primary means of getting admitted into most top Indian universities, including central, state, and private universities. Rather than submitting individual applications to various colleges, CUET 2025 offers you a single common test where you can display your abilities and reserve a place in your desired course.
For the Class 12 students, that implies less tension and more concentration. Under CUET, your board scores are significant, but with this test, you have a new opportunity to outshine. So, knowing the exam pattern is extremely crucial to strategize your preparation well and secure high marks.
CUET 2025 Exam Pattern: What’s New This Year?
NTA has brought a few changes in the CUET ’25 Exam Pattern this year to ease the process and make it student-friendly. The most prominent change is made in the number of subjects and sections permitted. Now, students are allowed to select up to six subjects such as languages, domain-specific subjects, and a general test.
Yet another significant update is in the marking scheme and difficulty level. The emphasis now is more on conceptual understanding than mere rote learning. The exam will continue to be conducted in computer-based mode (CBT), but the pattern of questions is likely to be a bit more application-based this time.
Sections in CUET 2025: A Quick Overview
CUET 25 will be comprised of three major sections – Language, Domain Subjects, and General Test.
- Section 1A & 1B: Select among 13 Indian languages and 20 foreign languages
- Section 2: Select among 27 course-specific topics
- Section 3: General Test (Logical Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude)
Students are free to select subjects based on the course for which they wish to apply. This provides you with the liberty to make the test fit your abilities and college course offerings.
Language Section: Reading the Choices
In Section 1, you can select your language of choice – Hindi, English, or any local language such as Tamil, Bengali, Gujarati, etc. The paper will examine your understanding, vocabulary, grammar, and language usage.
If you’re studying literature, journalism, or mass communication, your language score matters a lot. That’s why TestCoach pays extra attention to language practice with our expert-crafted mock tests and study plans.
Domain-Specific Topics: Pick What Suits Your Course
You can pick a maximum of six domain topics out of a total of 27, such as Maths, Physics, Accountancy, Economics, Political Science, and others. They must be related to what you have studied in Class 12 and the course you are applying for.
The questions will test your fundamental understanding and not merely memory. With the recent updates, anticipate more application-based MCQs. TestCoach’s carefully curated notes, mock tests, and performance analysis tools may assist you in staying ahead.
General Test: Not Mandatory, But Relevant for Some Courses
This section is compulsory only for certain courses such as BBA, Integrated Law, and some Science programs. It tests your logical reasoning, current affairs, general knowledge, and elementary maths.
Although it is not required, doing well here can be a plus. Our TestCoach team recommends attempting at least a few practice tests to determine whether this section is beneficial to your application.
Marking Scheme and Time Allocation
Every right answer is awarded +5 marks and every wrong answer is awarded -1 mark, so precision counts a lot. The test is spread across various slots, and time is allotted based on the type of subject (typically 45-60 mins per subject).
Time management and intelligent attempts are the way to go. That’s why TestCoach provides real-time mock simulations that assist students in developing speed and confidence.
How is CUET 2025 Exam Pattern Different from CUET 2024?
In CUET 2025, NTA has reduced the maximum number of subject choices, improved the question quality, and added more clarity on course-specific subject requirements. There’s also an effort to reduce overlaps and confusion from last year.
These changes are meant to reduce the burden and make it fairer for students from different boards and backgrounds. With our updated CUET 2025 resources, TestCoach ensures you’re always one step ahead.
