• World Sanskrit Day observed. World Sanskrit Day was observed on August 31. The day is dedicated to the promotion of Sanskrit, one of the oldest languages in the world. Sanskrit is the language of many ancient Hindu texts and scriptures.

• China releases new map including Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin. China has released a new map that includes the Indian territories of Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin. The map was released by China's Ministry of Natural Resources on August 29. The move has been condemned by India, which has called it a "serious violation of its sovereignty."
