  • India's first mRNA booster vaccine specifically targeting
    Omicron has entered clinical trials. GEMCOVAC-OM, the first Omicron-specific
    mRNA booster vaccine developed in India, is now undergoing clinical trials. The
    vaccine is a result of collaboration between the Indian Institute of Science
    (IISc) Bengaluru and the CSIR-National Institute of Immunology (NII).
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new campus
    of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Palakkad on June 28. The inauguration
    ceremony will mark the establishment of the new campus situated in Palakkad
    district of Kerala.
  • Two individuals lost their lives due to lightning strikes in
    Maharashtra on June 26. The incidents occurred in the districts of Nashik and
    Jalgaon.
  • Heavy rainfall on June 26 caused waterlogging in various
    parts of West Bengal. The districts most severely affected by the heavy rain
    and subsequent waterlogging were Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and Nadia.
  • The death toll from rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu has
    reached 11. These incidents occurred in the districts of Tirunelveli,
    Kanyakumari, and Ramanathapuram.

  • Amid an ongoing economic crisis that has resulted in
    widespread protests, the Sri Lankan government has declared a state of
    emergency. As part of this measure, a curfew has been imposed in the capital,
    Colombo, and other major cities.
  • In an effort to further isolate Russia and its economy, the
    European Union has agreed to ban the majority of Russian oil imports. This ban
    is set to be implemented in six months for crude oil and in eight months for
    refined products.
  • During the second quarter of 2022, China's economy
    experienced its slowest growth rate in two years. The slowdown can be
    attributed to various factors, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the
    war in Ukraine.
  • The US Supreme Court has made the decision to overturn the
    landmark 1973 ruling of Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion across the
    nation. As a result, many states are expected to enforce abortion bans.
  • The number of monkeypox cases in Europe and North America
    continues to rise, raising concerns within the World Health Organization. The
    organization has described the outbreak as "unusual" and
    "concerning."
